Updated Kitchen Built for Storage
This family used their resources to the fullest. Due to the typical cabinet configuration, the home was built with storage lacking. This caused the homeowners to stash many items on top of the counters which had no home inside of a cabinet. This is where smarter cabinetry plays a large role in de-cluttering a kitchen. Through more accessible pantry roll out trays, tall tray storage, full-extension drawers, full-height doors below the sink, and a trash pull-out cabinet we were able to rearrange the same contents into the same amount of space. We did’t bump into any other rooms to achieve the additional storage. We simply planned the cabinetry better based upon the homeowner’s needs.
While we found new homes for many items, we also wanted to create interest though varying textures. Some items are meant to be on display. It is still a good idea to personalize a kitchen with certain items. With the inclusion of a couple of open shelves next to the refrigerator, we provided an opportunity to display a few different items. Adding low profile, under cabinet lighting helps to illuminate those items on these open shelves, as well as the task surface below.
As one would accessorize an outfit with a tie, cuff links, a scarf, or a necklace, we topped off the design with a couple of colorful pendant light fixtures over the bar.
